My Popup Experience In Amman, Jordan
“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.” ― George Bernard Shaw
On September 13th, 2015 “The Local Table” hosted its second popup restaurant event at “Carakale Brewery” in Fuhais, Jordan.
The Local Table is run by the delightful Sereen Kurdi, a local chef, who has an infectious love for cooking with locally sourced food. This pop up restaurant was a one night event, hosted for twenty lucky Amman foodies.
The restaurant was set up in the Tasting Room of Carakale Brewery which is an airy room with large glass windows overlooking the production floor in the front and spectacular views of the Fuhais Valley in the back. Definitely a unique setting for this culinary experience.
Upon arriving at the brewery the patrons are treated to an open bar to sample all the different craft beers that Carakale produces, which they drank on the outside patio as they mingled with other guests and admired the Fuhais valley, colored red by the setting sun. A sublime start to the night.
The menu for the evening was in collaboration with chef Tareq Alameddine who was introduced as being a rising star in the culinary world. He worked in the restaurant Dom in Brazil (ranked number 7 in the world) and who has been offered a job in Noma in Denmark which is ranked as the best restaurant in the world. So we were in for a treat.
The menu for the night was as follows:
- Corn In A Husk
- Summer Tomatos
- Gougeres
- Sweatbreads vs Testicles – this was definitely the most adventurous plate of the evening and shockingly I enjoyed the testicles. So I do not know what the says about me 🙂 . Also Sweatbreads is not a bread, I will not spoil the surprise but go ahead and look it up online.
- Teta’s Pickles
- Eggs In A Nest
- Quail
- Watermelon Candy
- In the Woods
- Defaye
This was a wonderful menu that hit all the right notes of daring, comfort and just plain delicious. As an added bonus mid way through the serving we were taken on a tour of the brewery to see how the beer is produced at Carakale which was great fun.
Below is the video of this wonderful night.
