Travel Ideas For October

With the seasons changing, fall is the perfect time to pack your bags and travel. In the States, autumn’s crisp air and bright colors inspire travelers to embrace the outdoors and admire the fall foliage. While in Europe, the summer crowds are gone making it a great time to visit.

JORDAN

Jordan is the-must-see country in the Middle East. Enjoying stability in a turbulent region, October is a great month to visit. The daytime temperatures are guaranteed to be reasonable while the nights get quite cool (make sure to bring a jacket). There are many spectacular sites to visit and experiences to be had: see the iconic and awe-inspiring Petra, swim in the Dead Sea, visit the amazing Roman city of Jerash or overnight in a Bedouin camp under the expansive desert sky in Wadi Rum.

SPAIN

Spain is one of the most visited countries in Europe and a personal favorite of mine. This country has so much beauty, so much history ….. so much of everything you would ever want. The only issue I have with Spain is that everyone loves it, it seems like this summer the country was bursting at the seams with tourists.

Now the good news, October the weather is still beautiful and the tourists have thinned out. Best of all, you should be able to find some bargains. The hard part is deciding where to go in Spain: the metropolitan cities of Madrid or Barcelona, the gorgeous Andalusia area or visit any of the beautiful coastal towns.

Rome, Italy

Rome is the city of love and food, not Paris.

Unfortunately just like Span, Rome suffers from overcrowding. July and August the city is packed with tourists and it’s hot and miserable. September used to be quieter, but people realized this and now it’s busy too. So October, for me, becomes the month to visit Rome. This is an exorbitantly expensive city, but one that you must visit at least once in your life. Walk through the cobbled streets, admire the architecture, marvel at the historic sites like the Colosseum and of course discover all the decadent food the city has to offer.

New Orleans, Louisiana

With less stifling weather and plenty of cultural events, October is a great time to visit the Big Easy. During this month the fall festival season is in full swing. Just so you know, New Orleans isn’t just Mardi Gras. In October there are plenty of festivals to choose from including: Oktoberfest, Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival, New Orleans Film Festival and the Voodoo Music Festival.

Of course while in New Orleans you must try the Cajun and creole food.

Vermont

With a natural landscape that’s 75% forest, Vermont is the prime State to visit to checkout the changing of leaves. It is simply wondrous.  The first two weeks of October are the peak time for tourists interested in viewing the foliage. Make sure to choose a central location for your fall vacation and get to know your innkeeper; they can guide you to the best locations to see the best fall colors, the best scenic drives and the best places to spot moose!

Morocco

Morocco is a mystical land and anyone who’s visited will tell you the same. There’s a reason this country has such a revered place in traveler’s stories. It has mountains, deserts, beautiful coastlines and medinas (cities) of Marrakesh and Fez that will leave a permanent imprint on your mind.
